  • The castle, which is on Mount Bonadies overlooking the city, is named after the leader Lombard Arechi II, built in the eighth century the powerful defensive system of the castle part. The fortress was never conquered, though Gisulfo II, the last Lombard prince of Salerno, surrendered to the Normans after a long siege. Later, the castle has seen ups and downs, until, in the seventeenth century, changed the defense systems, began its decline. After the restoration was opened to the public museum Arechi castle, in which you can find pottery and artifacts from the castle itself.
